Feeding Hungry Seniors and Keeping Them in Their Homes
Meals on Wheels helps older adults and persons with disabilities in Eastern Iowa meet their daily nutritional needs by delivering hot, fresh, ready-to-eat meals in addition to frozen meals and breakfast bags.
Our clients can receive meals for a short duration while they’re recovering from a hospital stay, as respite care for their family who usually provides meals for them, or on an ongoing basis each weekday.
For home-bound seniors and their family members, the daily meal provides a sense of security knowing someone will be stopping in to check on them Monday through Friday. Contact our Meals on Wheels Department at (319) 398-3574 for questions or assistance.
Congregate Dining Sites
Congregate meals are available to any adult 60 or older, their spouse regardless of age and their child with disabilities (who lives with and attends with an eligible parent). In addition to meals, the congregate sites provide the opportunity to socialize with others, participate in activities such as BINGO, card games, or knitting, and hear presentations on topics such as heart disease, strokes and more.

Become a Meals on Wheels Volunteer
Volunteers are the hearts and hands of our programs. Not only do they prepare and deliver meals to homebound seniors in our local community, they also provide the seniors with a warm, friendly smile when they arrive at the door. There are numerous volunteer opportunities at Meals on Wheels. People of varied interests and abilities can help – whether they want to be hands-on or behind the scenes.Timing can be flexible for some tasks.
Contact Horizons about volunteering with Meals on Wheels to help home-bound seniors stay in their homes longer and be healthier.
We rely on the generous support of people like you to help us serve our clients who are often the most frail and isolated in our community. These meals help people stay independent, healthier, and in their own homes.
The need continues to grow but yet the funding for this program stays flat. Your monetary contributions (even made on behalf of someone else or in memory of someone) help us to meet the needs of home bound seniors.
Horizons is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and donations made to us are generally tax deductible. Always seek the advice of a tax professional when determining whether your contributions qualify for deduction.
