For older adults who are homebound and isolated, the holidays can be anything but a joyful time of year. Seniors who have little social interaction are more prone to depression, which in turn leads to poor health outcomes and contributes to rising health care costs. Throughout the year Elder Services, a department of Horizons, works to keep its most fragile friends and neighbors healthy and independent. Last year we served over 56,000 warm, nutritious meals in Johnson County. In addition, we provide a wellness check with each delivery to a homebound senior. The cost for all this is far less than the cost of care in a nursing home, one of the largest expenses to the Medicaid system.
Your support of Home for the Holidays is greatly appreciated! All donations go directly to our Meals on Wheels program. Additionally, with your support, Elder Services will deliver hot, nutritious meals to our homebound seniors on both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. On Christmas Day, our seniors will also receive a gift bag (including a card) – delivered by caring volunteers. Please join us again this year in creating a memorable Holiday season for our homebound seniors in Johnson County.
